Augusta is the venue for the Masters Golf tournament each year. Besides that, there are other reasons why tourists flock this city, such as its many sights and attractions.
Places to See
Augusta Museum of History – There is no better place to learn about a place’s history than by dropping by its main museum. The exhibits here are very informative and extensive, plus it gives you the chance to learn more about James Brown, who hailed from this city.
Sacred Heart Cultural Center – Visiting this church is a must if you are fascinated with great architecture. This is actually not a church anymore as it has turned into a center for various activities. You will love the brick work, the stained windows, and even the surprisingly Masonic symbols all over the place.
Phinizy Swamp and Nature Park – This is a nice place to have a picnic with your family. While enjoying your food under the shade of a tree, you can also chance upon different species of birds. Other animals that you can find there are rabbits, deer, snakes, butterflies, armadillo, turtles, and alligators, to name a few. Bring your camera and walk along its many trails.
Things to Do
Enjoy a Walk by the River – There is a paved area along the Savannah River that is perfect for a leisurely walk, or you may also try the path along the city’s canal system. You can do this early in the morning or during the sunset to enjoy the sceneries while burning off some calories.
Challenging Ride on a Mountain Bike – If you want to work off some serious sweat, try the trail by the Forks Area Trail System. It is divided into sections that fit for different bicycling level allowing you and the whole family to have fun here.
Trolley Tour – This tour will bring you to the Augusta Museum of History and other landmarks that exhibits Augusta’s history. You also get the chance to ride a trolley that will take you around the downtown area to see historic homes and buildings.
